Meet My New Best Friend – Weleda's Arnica Massage Balm!

Wow…that is all I can say about this product, (well that isn’t technically true, as this would be a rubbish review! But you get the point.)

As a person with many back problems, which have left me in a wheelchair, I am always looking for a new product that offers some kind of relief from aches and pains. I’ve tried the lot, and although helpful, nothing quite does the job properly! However, what I like about Weleda’s Arnica Massage Balm, is that it relaxes the mind as well as the muscles, which is equally as important when dealing with pain.

I first used this product after feeling pretty stressed, while sitting at my computer. I had been sitting in the same position for too long. The muscles in my shoulders and back had become very tight and I was beginning to start with a headache.

I massaged the Arnica Balm into my shoulders for ten minutes, closed my eyes and concentrated on my breathing, just letting the aroma of the arnica, lavender, birch and rosemary release into the air around me.

My muscles felt warm as the balm was applied, and that feeling lingered for an hour at least, the knots and spasms began to slowly release, ( the massaging action definitely helped with that). I like that the massage balm is actually a liquid, and not a thicker cream for example. The reason I prefer the liquid consistency is because the oily nature allows one to keep massaging without needing to reapply more product. A cream or balm rubs into the skin rather quickly, and therefore not as suitable for massage purposes.

I’m glad the product describes itself as a ‘massage balm’, because it is crucial to apply a product designed for aching muscles etc with repeated pressure, and with a kneading action to the affected areas. This is the only way to get the product to work to best effect. I know for some the concept of self-massage may seem strange, but the Arnica Balm can only do so much, if you want to alleviate tension, this is the best way; I promise!  Alternatively, you could always ask someone else to do it for you.

The best way I have found to use this balm is to run a bath with a few drops in. Then after the bath use sparingly on the tight areas of your body, and massage in for 10 minutes. Then lie back and relax. Bliss!

Weleda describe their wonder-product as;

Weleda Arnica Massage Balm is a wonderfully aromatic dark gold liquid containing therapeutic plant extracts and oils to comfort old aches and pains that flair up when put to the test. Not surprisingly, this best-seller is a favourite with sports professionals.

What is Arnica though?

Weleda explain that Arnica is an important ingredient when dealing with aches and pains. Arnica can be applied externally or taken internally as a homeopathic remedy to assist with bruises, sprains, muscular aches and joint pains. They say their organic Arnica is grown to strict biodynamic standards to ensure purity and quality.

Sounds like one cool plant!

Obviously, one has to be realistic, this product isn’t going to take all of your pain away, especially if you have a serious condition like mine. However, it does relax the muscles and mind considerably; and for that reason alone it is my new best friend!

I give Weleda Arnica Massage Balm a wonderful 10 out of 10 lipsticks!
