Beyonce Knowles, the Destiny’s Child band member, is on the founding committee , along with Salma Hayek Pinault and Frida Giannini, for the charity Chime For Change. This charity is so important, it stands up for the women and girls who need our help, from all around the world! It was founded by the fashion house Gucci.
The three women represent three areas of concern, Health, Justice and Education. Knowles is linked with Health, Giannini with Justice and Hayek Pinault is associated with Education. Under the umbrella of each concern, a host of information is available in either film, story or project sub-headings. The short films inform the viewer of the many problems women are facing. Then the real life stories convey the reality of the problem from the perspective of the women themselves. We are then shown a number of different projects which aim to tackle that problem.
The unique way in which these problems are displayed to the public, enables one to find a project, that might not have had such publicity prior to this campaign. There is also an informative scale which shows the percentage of funding which each project has received, so one can see the most needy projects or can donate to a project that almost has it’s total, to get a project to it’s target!
The campaign allows people to use their talents for a good cause. It’s not always easy to know how to use one’s talents for good, but this website gives us the opportunity. These films, music events and written articles inform the general public about the reality of the situations of many unfortunate women and girls in our world.
The process of the website is to LEARN, FIND A PROJECT and then SUPPORT A PROJECT.
Here’s some info about the three areas of concern.
800 WOMEN DIE EVERY DAY DURING PREGNANCY
AND CHILDBIRTH BUT 80% OF THOSE DEATHS COULD
BE PREVENTED WITH PROVEN SOLUTIONS AND
ACCESS TO CARE.
GIVING LIFE SHOULDN’T MEAN HAVING TO RISK YOURS.
AROUND THE WORLD, GIRLS AND WOMEN LACK THE PROTECTION AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITY THEY DESERVE. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND TRAFFICKING DISPROPORTIONATELY AFFECT WOMEN.
AND IN SPITE OF GAINS, WOMEN HOLD JUST 21% OF SEATS IN NATIONAL PARLIAMENTS GLOBALLY. BUT GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY, WOMEN EMPOWER THEMSELVES AND IMPROVE OUTCOMES FOR THEIR FAMILIES, COMMUNITIES AND COUNTRIES.
60% OF THE CHILDREN NOT IN SCHOOL ARE GIRLS, BUT
STUDIES SHOW THAT INVESTING IN GIRLS’ EDUCATION
RAISES GDP AND EMPLOYMENT.
PROVIDING OPPORTUNITY FOR GIRLS IMPROVES OUTCOMES NOT JUST FOR THEM, BUT ALSO THEIR FAMILIES, COMMUNITIES AND COUNTRIES.
The concept of the charity is as follows:
‘CHIME FOR CHANGE is powered by Catapult, the first crowd-funding site where people can make real change happen for girls and women. Through Catapult, nonprofit organizations post their projects and people can find and fund the issues that speak to them the most.’
Their manifesto is as follows:
Throughout history, women have done things differently.
When we need to get something done, we do it together.
With each new generation our story has spread wider.
The voices telling it braver, more powerful.
But the story is far from over. These are extraordinary times.
Thanks to technology, women across the world have the ability to connect in ways unimaginable to those who went before us. We believe that connection empowers us.
We are proud to be joining a growing movement of many.
The young and the old, women and men, from all cultures and all walks of life who want to see change. Not one, but billions of voices calling for the empowerment of girls and women. Empowerment through education, through health, through justice.
This is about hearing a call – to join us wherever you are.
About raising an alarm – drawing attention where there is work to be done.
Our issues are the world’s issues.
This is the sound of connection.
This is the sound of progress.
This is the sound of change.
“I have always felt strongly about equal opportunity for women. Girls have to be taught from early on that they are strong and capable of being anything they want to be. It’s up to us to change the statistics for women around the world. I’m honored to be in the company of women who live fearlessly and set an example for the next generation.”
Other stars who support this cause are Katy Perry, Freida Pinto, Evan Rachel Wood, Olivia Wilde and Jada Pinkett Smith – who all appeared in a video saying “anything is possible for women around the world.” They explain the, “three of the most powerful tools a woman can have to help change the world”: education, health and justice. Blake Lively, Zoe Saldana and Halle Berry have been announced today to be the latest celebs to join the campaign. Click on the image of the C below to watch the video.
