‘I’ve decided I am going to start loving my backside because I don’t know anyone who does that. And for my daughter, I want to be able to say to her, “I love this.”’ Winslet commented in February 2009
Makes sense ? But how refreshing is it, hearing a Hollywood celebrity saying it?  This is why I LOVE Kate Winslet. She has had such a succesful career with films such as, Titanic (1997), Iris (2001),  Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (2004), The reader (2008), Revolutionary Road (2008), Finding Nerverland (2004),The Holiday (2006), Carnage (2011), Contagion (2011), and her successful HBO series Mildred Pierce (2011). Despite all her success she is kind, honest and down to earth, we can see that in her self -mocking performance in Extras where she played an exaggerated, slightly odd version of herself. This funny and pretty awesome performance led her to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series for “Extras” (2005).
The first time I witnessed Kate Winslett on screen was in Sense and Sensibility (1995), which is still one of my favourite films. Winslett was still relatively new in the acting business after only having one film called, Heavenly Creatures under her belt. The director Ang Lee has since confessed that he was worried about the way Winslet had feriously attacked her role in Heavenly Creatures , the film before . Therefore he asked her to take up Tai-chi and read Austen-era literature, and lastly to work with a pianist , all of these vehicles were needed to enable her to fully achieve the grace that the role of Marianne Dashwood required. It certainly worked as Winslett received many nominations for her triumphant sucess in perfecting her role. She received a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild Award as well as a nomination for a Golden Globe.
Since that film she has had incredible success in many of her subsequent roles, she won an Oscar for her Best Leading Actress performance in The Reader, she has also received five other Oscar nominations within her career. In total she has earned a total of six Academy Award nominations, nine Golden Globe nominations, and seven BAFTA nominations! Not to mention a CBE awarded by the Queen in the 2012 Birthday Honours for services to drama. Her mantelpiece must be weighed down at home!
What is unique about Winslet is that she is very open that it was her passion for acting that brought her a succesful career and not a hunger for fame, which is seen all to often in today’s fame obssessed society. ‘I never had a desire to be famous…’ she remarked in December 2008.
The Oscar-winning star founded the Golden Hat Foundation  – named after a poem by Keli Thorsteinsson – following her work on the documentary A Mother’s Courage: Talking Back To Autism. To get involved or learn more please go to
Winslet who is now married to Richard Branson’s nephew, Ned Rocknroll, is looking happier and healthier than ever which is great to see. She has had many successful looks in her reign as ‘Queen of the Actresses’  (well that’s what I think she is). Here are some outfits that I liked:
