OZ is certainly a magical place that catches the imagination of generation after generation. There have been countless derivatives of the original enchanting narrative, and the characters and themes are just as engaging now as they were when OZ was created in 1900 in a novel by L. Frank Baum. Obviously, the most iconic so far has been the 1939 film ‘The Wizard of Oz’ with Judy Garland.
Personally, I identify with Dorothy the most, unfortunately as my love life seems to have resembled that of her journey on the infamous yellow brick road. I encountered a sweet but cowardly lion, several brainless scarecrows and most dishearteningly, a LOT of tin men!! But I’ve heard that in the land of OZ the wizard will find me my ‘happy ever after’, mind you if I blagged myself a pair of those ruby shoes like Dorothy did, (I’m guessing they are Christian Louboutins?) I’d be more than happy with them!
The most recent Oz inspired dramatic piece comes in the form of Disneys, ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’, a prequel to ‘The Wizard of Oz’. It stars Rachel Weiz, James Franco, Zach Braff, Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis to name just a few. On the 13th Feb, the worldwide premiere of the film was held in Los Angeles. The ladies all looked stunning and suitably dressed taking into account that this is a Disney film. I particularly liked Mila Kunis’ dress, it had a 50’s vibe to it and a contrasting look to the usual attire at red carpet events. The off the shoulder cut is very flattering and emphasizes her figure, her simple jewellry and classic make up and hair completed the look perfectly. Michelle Williams’ posed for photos in her white and black shift dress, looking as fresh faced and radiant as ever. Then finally Rachel Weiz looked picture perfect in her simple, elegant, deep orange dress (nobody does elegance like Rachel Weiz). All in all, the three beautiful ladies all scrubbed up well for the first showing of the eagerly anticipated film.
In conjunction with the film the brand Urban Decay have launched two new make up palettes in honour of the two characters Glinda and Theodora. Each one has six pans and eight new eyeshadows. These sets also include two circles of eyeshadow with duo shades split in half, having a different color on each side. Plus, you also get a Super-Saturated High Gloss Lip Color and a travel-size 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil.
Each palette comes in a sleek tin adorned with gorgeous Oz The Great and Powerful-inspired artwork, with ‘Urban Decay’ and the name of the film in foil lettering. The Glinda Palette features a dreamy, celestial design awash in a sheer backdrop of pink, gold and peach, while The Theodora Palette features a moody, colorful skyscape flanked by Rorschach-like patterns. And both versions incorporate our Build Your Own Palette format for total versatility. When you finish the original shades (or whenever you get the urge to experiment), just pop them out and pop your favorite UD shadows into the cool collectible tin.
